Hello Girls!

So if you are here and wondering if you are at the right place, you probably are. This is the blog that we've been talking about. I can't say it started from here but this was definitely one of the places we 'hanged out' and talked last season. In 2007, 2008

For those who were at Macritchie, GREAT and FANTABULOUS job! Wasn't a superbly long hike, but for the simple reason that you completed what you started, it's commendable already! That's what it's all about, ain't it? Finishing what we started out to do and finishing it well. As talked about earlier, success is a journey, not a destination.

We may fall, falter and fail but the key is not giving up. teamTJC has never given up to the odds, not matter how much they seem to be against us.
The little victories you made today is what matters. Celebrate the pockets of success you had today and live for another one tomorrow.

I may not know what are the little or MEGA obstacles/hurdles you face everyday, but one thing I know and believe. You can overcome it. Press in.

What teamTJC had before is special. What teamTJC has today is special too-the friendships, the bond, the conversations, the laughter, tears, pain, joy, setbacks, etc. Nothing can replace what the team has here today. The team is made up of what you CHOOSE to make of it.

You see, at the end of the day, even if we were to win the medals, they will be nothing compared to the relationships each of you have and will continue to share with each other. I've seen it in the previous batch and I'm certain each of them will profess to it too.

So when you see each other tomorrow or at the next training, remember this:
Who you are as a person is more important than what you can do as a player.

Celebration of Creativity

Since it's so quiet down here, I've decided to celebrate the creativity God has bestowed upon Man and screen some of my favourite youtube videos to show just that.

Instructions: Click on 'Play' then 'Pause' to allow videos to load entirely before watching them. It's the best way to enjoy the video fully. You are not expected to sit through and endure the entire video. You may stop at any point in time. Please ensure you aren't in the midst of eating or drinking whilst watching these videos. The main objective of the tournament is to promote the game of soccer through sportsmanship, fair play and competition. The tournament rules are intended to support these objectives. Every participant including the manager, coach, captain, parent, official or supporter is expected to behave in a manner that brings credit to their team and the game. Doing so will add to the enjoyment of everyone.

TIME – 9am - 5pm
REGISTRATION FEE – $80 per team of 8 players

TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS

Group Stages - Round - robin
- 5 teams in a group
- 3 points win; 1 point draw & 0 point lose
- Level points on goal difference
- Top 2 team qualify to quarter finals, semi finals & finals

Playing Time - 10 minutes continuously
- No change of half
- Roll substitution
- Knock-out system
- Tie breaker to play penalty shootout (quarterfinals, semifinals & finals)
PRIZES

Champion team will receive $500 worth of LOTTO sports products & THE CAGE voucher
2nd place will receive $350 worth of LOTTO sports products & THE CAGE voucher
3rd place will receive $200 worth of LOTTO sports products & THE CAGE voucher
4th place will receive $100 worth of LOTTO sports products & THE CAGE voucher

All participating teams will also get a LOTTO ball each.

since the blog needed some updating, i decided to post this from GOLDEN PAST RED FUTURE----by Paul Tomkins

Footballers differ from many other athletes and sportsmen, in that, exhibitionist ball-jugglers aside, they exist exclusively in the realms of a team sport. Golfers may join together for the Ryder Cup, tennis players may unite for the mixed doubles, and the fastest men and women on the planet may exchange (or in Britain’s case, drop) batons in the 4x100m relay, but otherwise they exist in isolation, loners in their chosen sport, pitting their wits one-against-one, or one-against-all comers, to be crowned the best, it is highly instructive to watch how golfers, for example, visibly wilt under the pressure of other golfers, not to mention their country/continent, but that’s once every 2 years, and the rest of the time they just have to concentrate on their own game.

Consider the lot of a top footballer who trains his heart out from a tender age, leads an abstemious life away from the pitch, and generally attempts to do all he can to get the most from his God-given talent. Whatever his destiny in the sport, he is beholden to his teammates. Still judged as an individual, but part of a collective. Diego Maradona aside, a footballer cannot win games single-handedly, he can make winning contributions. Modern-day footballers are trained, with almost nauseating predictability, to thank their teammates at every opportunity—after all, they cannot do it alone. Even Maradona would have struggled in a match of 1 vs 11. It is a team sport, and as the annoying phrase confirms, there is no I in team. But if the best players need the assistance of their teammates, it’s equally true to say that their teammates can also hold them back. There’s no point being the best striker in the world if your keeper cant catch a football and concedes 5 in every game,, similarly, there’s no point being the best keeper in the world if your strikers cant even hit a barn door, and never score a goal. No one should be in any doubt that whatever the power of the team, football revolves around individuals. They are the ones who make the telling contributions. However great a team moves, it needs one person alone to finish it off. A team is always a collection of disparate, autonomous human beings who come together for the cause, it is not 11 conjoined people, like a freak of nature. A team will always need someone to move above and beyond teamwork, and to take responsibility to be the individual who makes a difference, Not in a display of irresponsible showboating, or the reckless abandon of trying to shine while not caring about the fact that it might be counterproductive winning the game. Someone—a single player—has to make it count. These are ‘match winners’

The programme will be as follows:

7-9.30pm- S-league game
9.30-10pm- Clinic by the Young Women's team
10-10.30pm- Friendly ( 7-side)

I hope you girls will be able to make it down for this clinic. It will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to meet up. Can you girls help me spread the message ? If this is successful , we will continue to hold it here after S-league match every month. The highlight will be the Friendlies after the clinic so everyone can get to play against other teams.

Saints garner memorable victory
Chong's opportunistic stike steers SAJC to win over VJC in the A div(girls) finals

SAJC girls defeated VJC girls 1-0 at JBS on Friday aftn to secure the FAS Inter JC Championships trophy 2007.
Going into the final, Victoria were probably the favourites, having easily shrugged aside Temasek JC in the semi final, but they failed to show enough real spark to pull off the victory here.
They did, however, enjoy plenty of possession and forced enough corners to give them the chances they needed to encourage mistakes from their opponents. But it was St Andrews who went closest to scoring in a goal-less first half.
4 Saints' players came at the Victorian defence in the 30th minute and when the ball arrived at the feet of Cheah Ai Lin it was unfortunately lifted over the bar from right in front, sparing the Victorians an early deficit.
There was also a very close call for the Victorians moments before the break when a St Andrews' corner saw the ball bobbing around the goalmouth before it was hastily scrambled clear.
Over at the other end, Pham Thu Thu Hien was a great presence at the heart of the St Andrew's defence, as were midfielders Cheah Ai Lin and Sherlyn Koh Xiaotian and half time replacement, Rynette Tan.
But the victorian side worked hard and could have won the game with better fortune. As Victoria pushed forward in search of the opening goal, St Andrews struck in the 54th minute.
Collecting the ball in the middle of the park, St Andrews' star Maria Rowe threaded a ball through for striker Beatrice Chong to chase.
Victoria's keeper, Farah Bte Mohd Faudzi, raced off her line in an attempt at reaching the ball before her opponent, but she failed to connect and it then sat up niecly for Chong to slot away into a now empty net.
Victoria had pressed hard to that point, too.
Two very near misses in the early stages of the second half were largely due to the good work of Saints keeper, Melanie Tan, who recovered well when the ball fell into danger areas of her six yard box.
Another great chance for the Victorians came in the 65th minute when Ang Kuan ren fired off a strong shot that the keeper saved well. Later, Ang Kuan Ren was named as the match's Most Outstanding player and deservedly so.

This award was given for the entire series, not just for the match.
St Andrews' Maria Rowe carried off the Top Goal-scorer award with 11 strikes in the series.

Earlier the Third-place play-off game brought together Temasek JC and Raffles JC, with the latter prevailing 1-0. This was, as the score suggests, another close game with Temasek coming out of their shell in the second period to make a real game of it.
In the last kick of the game they hit the woodwork, when Wong Shi Hui found the right hand post of Raffles' otherswise impeccable keeper, Eng Pingni, looking well beaten.
Raffles made much of the early running in the game and when Germaine Yap Syn Yee lobbed her shot over the bar in the 16th minute it seemed a matter of time before her side would take the lead.
There was very little for the Raffles' keeper to do in the first half and her opposite number, Lee Huimin, was definitely the busier of the two.
Through on goal in the 27th minute Li Wei En Joanna was forced wide by a Temasek defence determined to keep their goal intact.
Then two minutes after the break a free kick was awarded to the Raffles JC girls.
Raffles captain, Yap Xiu Huan, was on the right and managed to pick her spot with a high lob, finding the top right hand corner of Lee Huimin's goal.

It was an awkward one for the keeper to reach and any goalie would have been troubled by it.
Temasek showed tenacity to work their way back into the game, after that setback and only a foul on the Raffles' keeper denied them a chance to score with the ball on its way towards goal.
The Raffles keeper was at her best to save when the ball ran free in the box in the 62nd minute, as Temasek made their late and almost profitable charge.
In the end time ran out for Temasek and the girls from Raffles JC claimed third spot with a sound all-round performance.

please meet at 1pm at PASIR RIS MRT. the chalet is at downtown east.
BBQ-cum- dinner will be held on 29th night, so please come with an empty stomach, which should not be a problem cos WE ARE ALWAYS VERY HUNGRY!

Congrats Girls! Well Done! We are officially the first team to have qualified for the Semi-Finals of the FAS INTER-JC WOMEN'S TOURNMAENT. Way to Go!

But we are merely turning in at the corner as we approach our final lap. It'd be naive of us to think it's all over now. Still got quite a bit more to go. Hang in there! WE WILL FUN AND FINISH THIS RACE WELL, WITH OUR HEADS UP HIGH. NOTHING LESS THAN OUR BEST.

This Saturday's the match against SAJC. A little inconsequential if you ask me. Some might say it determines who we face in the Semi's. I say it makes no difference to us who we face. It's only a matter of when we face them - sooner of later. And whoever and whatever, bring it on.
As with all our matches, we'll play with nothing less than our best and stick to our gameplan. As of now, we really have nothing to lose as long as we stick to our team beliefs.
SO cmmon Girls, let's go in there, play our hearts out and have a BALL OF A TIME. I'm sure we will. :)

Yes girls. You need to let your voice be heard. Not just at team level but on a personal level, You need to hear your own voice. That inner voice - we so often neglect and pay little attention to affects your game more than you can imagine.

Here are a few points on what you can jot down in that little blue note book of yours:

2) Goal/Target/Objective (of training session or mental exercise)

3) Reflection (before/during/after training or mental session)

First, HAPPY AND BLESSED BIRTHDAY TO YINGQI! YVETTE! and Diana(if she even visits or know about this blog)?

May the 3 of you have a great, wonderful and enjoyable day!

Next, I JUST WANNA TELL THE YEAR 1's, only because I realised I didn't get to say it to you at training earlier (i'm not very good with words), THAT I'M TOTALLY PROUD TO HAVE YOU AS MY PLAYERS! IT HAS BEEN A GREAT PLEASURE COACHING EACH OF YOU. HAVING YOU AS PLAYERS MAKE THE LIFE OF A COACH SO MUCH EASIER-THE JOY, THE FUN, THE LAUGHTER AND WARMTH IS TRULY THE MARK OF TEAM TJC RIGHT FROM THE SENIORS DOWN TO YOU. :)
AND TRUST ME, YOU HAVE ALL IMPROVED INDIVIDUALLY AND CORPORATELY AS A TEAM, SINCE DAY 1 YOU STEPPED ONTO THE PITCH.

Just some pics to remind you of day 1 when we met, when sparks and electricity was all around the field that day. I can even remember how it poured shortly after we started training. Rebekah was leading the seniors to run laps round the pitch. She asked me after a couple of rounds: "Mr Au, are you enjoying yourself so far?? ;)"
Mr Au: "I sure am!"

I also remember the cheering of the juniors when the seniors were running their final few rounds! That Spirit is truly what we live for. The unity! The 1-for-all and all-for-1 attitude. Brings joy to me. It's probably what motivates me to keep on going, inspite and despite all the 'ups & downs'. Have I told you (I'm sure I havent') that I always look forward to the training sessions with you? It's definitely one of the highlights of my week. All this only because each of YOU has made it possible. :)

Some of us had the opportunity to talk about this before training today and we agreed upon the following:

Positives (+'s)

1) Spirit of Encouragement
2) Good learning experience
3) Familiarisation of team-mates and team work amongst each other
4) Intense visualisation before Team A' final match helped focus the team on it's objectives
5) Team Spirit & hunger
6) Playing without pressure (fun, exposure, etc)
7) Team coming together to problem solve
8) Teachable
9) Fighting Spirit

Negatives (-'s)

1) Injuries
2) Team morale went down each time let in go resulting in loss of focus
3) Loss of Temper and composure
4) Lack of focus
5) Lack of communication on the pitch
6) Lack of Positional Awareness
7) Sense of intimidation by the opponents
8) Lazy/Lack of discipline

As you can see, there are some points that are listed under both '-'s and '+'s (e.g. Focus). They were brought up by different individuals which also means some of us are stronger in certain areas whilst others are weaker. So let the stronger ones spur and help the not-so-strong ones ok. Let's move on and improve together as a team.

The only way we can go is upwards and forward. Let no one be left behind.

What a day of fun and just getting to know each other and ourselves better. I hope we all learnt something about the team, our team-mates and ourselves from this outing.
Most of all, I hope we picked up many POSITIVES and threw away some NEGATIVES from the time amidst the tree top.

Great job girls for enduring the tiredness, the hunger and the constant niao-ing. I'm sure we all had fun yah! At least I did. It was just a pleasant time having the juniors back with us again. I sure did enjoy knowing each of you better. :)

I figured this would be appropriate now.

I'm not sure if you girls would get to read this before tomorrow's release of results. Well, even if you don't, it shouldn't matter much because nothing changes no matter what the outcome of tomorrow (090207).

I just want to say a big and giganormous THANK YOU to each and everyone of you (with fear of leaving someone out, I shall not name names).

Thank you for allowing me to train each of you. Despite the short period of time we shared together, I really had an enjoyable time everytime you were around. You certainly have introduced us to a whole new meaning of joy and fun at trainings. I'm sure the seniors would totally agree with me on that.

Thank you for never failing to encourage us when the 'cards' are down or when physical training just seems so hard to get by. The constant shouting, cheering and songs really did help a whole bit. I must say I feel a great sense of pride when running with your girls, especially when all the cheering and singing is ongoing. I certainly take no credit in any of it. TEAMTJC's spirit exists only because you allowed it to. So all credit and glory to each of you. This includes you too, Seniors (Gelin, you ain't excluded).

Last but not least, thanks for just being around. Thanks for being you. =)

Should you (I'm praying real HARD God forbid!!) have to move on away from TJC, I hope you take with you the same core values TEAMTJC has always believed and played with.

its late to write about my resolution, but i still want to wish all the year2 who had survived last year in terms of training and academically to continue to perservere ( ok i cant spell) and work hard in these months. YES less than a year ya? train hard to burn off the fats that might accumulate while studying for Alevels/ prelims. and also study hard for the fact that you will not touch all these notes at least 6months after the major exams. this is what i call, ENJOY WHILE YOU CAN, SAVE FOR RAINY DAYS:) all in all, we will make it there yea? Wow! Where do I start? 2006 has been such an eventful and quick year for me. Not sure if it has been the same for you.
One of the loveliest things that could have happened to a football fanatic, like myself, is to actually have the opportunity to coach a football team. But what could be even more happening is when the team I get to coach/train turns out to be the girls team from TJC!
It's true that TEAMTJC is indeed the pioneer batch that I actually get to coach, however, as far as I am concerned, I am enjoying every bit of it thorougly and am looking forward to what's in store for us.
Many have asked me what keeps me going, considering I don't get paid for this and that I actually have to forgo/forsake many other 'full-time' job offers just so I can make it for training ? A couple of reasons actually:
1) Undying Love for the game.
2) To gain experience and something for my portfolio
3) you. you. you.

"But Mr Au, it's not as if we are like a bunch of babes that you're coaching you know. And we aren't like fantastic in playing the game either. You sure you want to see us through?"

YES. No doubts about that. Never once has it crossed my mind, since starting mid-july this year, to ever leave the team (and trust me, there are so many reasons why I should leave). In some sense, I feel responsible to take each of you through to the end of this journey (end of tourney). I don't like to know I've started something and not been faithful to see it to completion. Secondly, I can't bear to leave you girls in the lurch, considering how 'training' was conducted previously. Last but not least, I know I have, can and will thus, continue to make a difference in each of your lives. So....why in the world should I consider leaving?

No doubt I first joined you girls at your first training session on 17th July (yes it has been that fast!), it has been a rather interesting 5 months we've had together.
From the time I shook Sheryl and Rebekah's hands when Mr Tong introduced us (oh yes! not forgeting Claud who came up to me and said "Hi Mr Au...I'm Claudia.." haha!) to the time I observed your first training session and how I slowly removed the load off Sheryl's shoulders. We then went on to take part in the DLF competition with 2 teams, did reasonably well and then progressed to reach the final 8 in the FAS 7's. I also remember being introduce to the 'World of Girls' Football' and all the rivalry, politics, etc involved in it. It wasn't as simple as I thought it would be. Of course, we played the Young Lions Womens' team in the rain before we called for the break before your exams. You girls were so sweet with the teacher day's gift. Up till today, my mom still BOASTS about how sur-hweet a team of girls I have in you. Probably what keeps me going when the 'cards' are down (some of u would know what I mean). Went on to pre-season training after your exams, had a few more friendlies, outings and now we've finally come to the final day of year 2006. Oh yes! Not forgeting the birthday surprise that was prepared for me.
Thank you for the many wonderful memories I surely hold dear to my heart and mind. You've been a wonderful, fun and sweet team to coach. You make coaching you so much easier. Then again, it gets tough too because of all that. It's tough because.....(i shall leave this unsaid ..for now).

As we enter in 2007, let's not be so engrossed about making resolutions as most of us are in the habit of doing (and often unaccomplished the year after). Rather, let's reflect upon 2006, the mistakes, the failures, the shortcomings, the successes, victories and happy stories. Let's just take a moment, think through some of these things, pen them down with no regrets or complacency. Finally, set out to use these experiences and learning points in year 2007.
We have already walked through almost half a year of life's journey together. Let's walk through next year's journey together, through the good times and the bad. Hand in hand. Leg to leg. Head to head. (okok..getting kind of cold here...hah!)

I'm excited and enthusiastic about the future laid before US. I can't wait to run this race with each of you. Let's do it TEAM TJ! And as our dear huimin would so rightly put it everytime ..." FOCUS TJ! FOCUS!"

yes! I've finally uploaded the pics of the Marina Bay Christmas Outing to the team photo album. so check them out if you want to see candid shots of people bowling, laughing, exchanging presents, having fun and a panda celebrating her birthday. haha. you will also realise that there are some weird photos inside (of our captain, ms wong shihui, our 15-year-old panda and our coach especially).

we also have a special video appearance by our dear claudia wong where she complains about the mould on bus service 400.

and to add a footnote to the speeches already posted, i hope that we can keep our attendance can continue to improve to 100% and that everyone will ~~try to~~ pay their soccer funds on time.

also a big thank you to all of you and Mr. AU for all the fun and lessons in 2006 and onward to a greater year in 2007!

hmm..wad to say..
i m jus thankful that i made e correct decision to join soccer..
cos right at the start, my parents also forbid me to join soccer..girls shldnt play soccer. ur body so weak, keep falling sick. blahblahblah
i was hesitating la..either soccer, volleyball or back to TABLE TENNIS again..LOL..
but after thinking for e whole 3 months, i went ahead with my decision :)
i m glad i stayed strong to my decision despite some disappointments in between.

n i m glad that our wish came true.
we had got ourselves a coach- mr melvin au who had made a GREAT difference in our trainings..our team play :)
thank you so much

soccer is really something i want to play because i want to experience teamwork. team spirit. cooperation. communication.
in my whole 8 years as a table tennis player, team play is not required. so..i kinda lost the passion in the small orange ball..nevertheless, i still wanna get involved in BALLS..lol..

although trainings are very tiring and crazy, but all is worth it. for the game and for the team.
like wad yq has said, u feel proud to see ur own effort paid off in e match..hahaa

and two things for sure that has changed me ever since i joined soccer:
1) i haf learnt to sacrifice my weekends and glue myself to the tv for at least 90min.
2) i haf become a true supporter for CHELSEA. because of my beloved lampard =)

so...interesting, unforgettable jc life started since the moment i fell in love....with the ball..

definitely.. i dun regret joinin e soccer team even when soooo many ppl tink dat im crazy for like having 3 PDPs.. but i realli learned alot from each n everyone of u in e team.. soccer skills from mr au.. learnin to communicate tog on e field.. n teamwork (nv learned in table tennis).. i realli love e feeling of playin together as a team.. fightin 4 one common goal dat is to play our best in every single game.. i enjoyed every single training n friendly matches played.. even though trainings maybe tough n tiring.. but when hard work pays off during our matches i tink it is all worth it..

i noe dat i cant put in as much time into soccer as many of u.. cos of my other erm activities.. but e team still allowed me to play for e matches when there r others who deserve to play more.. realli appreciate it.. hope dat my performance wont disappoint u all.. =)..

its been almost a year tgt(4 most of us)!
hahaha, well shall say some things since we've officially ended our training..

its been a great pleasure, and definitely a big highlight of my life to be in this FUNLOVING,spontaneous,lame,enthusiastic team!=)
yup.honestly speaking, when i 1st joined soccer, i was still worried about nt making gd friends in here...well it seemed 2 me that every1s kind of in her own world..but
click click..we bonded pretty fast..esp when we start to gossip. TSSSK.=p

yup,and what makes me happier is that i can see that most of the girls really like soccer! well,evidence from shiyi's msn nick!
yup..its like a comfort to me la..like..u dont see people who really love wad they're doing in their cca right..get wad i mean? Nvm if u dont. hahaha.
and being the captain, though there're times when i get stressed out(cant rmbr about what)..i think overall the team is pretty cooperative. oh, girls, PAY soccer funds on time OKAY. hahaha. dont let huimin stress out too.

and i think, some of us, are quite affected by how other sch teams are doing and stuff. hmm, of course i'd try to know whats going on outside, but listen alright, dont let it sink into u too much. seriously, i think, as long as we know what we're doing, i think its sufficient already.
and most importantly, have FAITH in us! lets not be pessimistic and think about what others can do and what we cant!
well, i only want to say that different teams have different needs alright?
we have MR melvin au and he definitely have my trust in bringing our team to jalan besar next year=)
and ..i've seen improvement in the team. of course if ATTENDANCE (eh hem) is better, our team can move forward together efficiently too. so i would like to further emphasis this point. ATTENDANCE next year girls!

Hello girls!

I know many of you are awaiting the analysis of the game we had against Queensway. I'm so sorry I can't get it out to you as soon as I would like to, cos I'm up to my neck with all the work I've at hand now (school-work, work-work and all the Christmas preparations
-which reminds me you girls must come for my Christmas party on the 23rd okay. I know we have one with 'Mulan Warrior' Gelin on the 20th. But pls pls try to make it for the one on 23rd. It's going to be held near your ex-captain's(Sheryl) house and will start at 6.30pm. Your coach will turn singer/carol-er that night. so u MUST come! mark it down! Invites will be given out to you soon!).

So back to what I was saying...I will try to get the match report/analysis out by next week. For now, you may like to post some of your thoughts (emotions/feelings--don't have to be anything tactical) with regards to the game you played.
meantime, I would like to say I am pleased and proud with what I saw last Friday. for a couple of reasons, I see improvement in many areas(of which I will elaborate further later) and I simply love the spirit of the team. If there's anything you girls can be proud of, its the spirit each of you possess. Of course, not all of us are at the same level, in terms of love, passion, fighting spirit, will, fitness or even ball skills, but together, we will move forward and progress as a team, aye? Having said that, I'm sure we all agree there are lots of room for us to further work together and improve as a team!

So i'm proud to be your coach/trainer/team-mate/friend. Never stop loving the game, the friendships you have here and of course, the BALL at your feet.
Like I told some of you at training on Tuesday, effectively, you have about slighlty more than 5 months to play and train hard before mugging for the 'A's begin. Let's PLAY REALLY HARD so that we will not live to regret not having done so sometime in June next year ok?

I would also like to commend our latest additions to the team namely: Verine, Sherine (is this how I spell your name?), ShiXuan, Vanessa and Celestine. You girls have been simply tremendous in learning to have fun with us, playing hard, smiling and for just being around (even at lunches). It has been a delight having you around.
Not forgetting our 2 friends from TKGS and 3 friends from Chung Cheng. Forgive my poor memory. Although you've joined us only once, you are always welcome to come back and have a BALL of a time with TEAMTJ (cold joke, i know)!

On behalf of the team, we hope to see more of you. Even if at the end of the day, that for whatever reason you do not get into TJ (i.e. choice/results/etc), we wish you all the best and would always welcome you to 'kick balls' with open arms. Just don't let Shihui hug you with her smelly jersey.

A football coach walked into the locker room before a game, looked at his star player and said:" I m not supposed to let you play since you failed maths, but we need you in there."

"So what I have to do is ask you a maths question, and if you get it right, you can play."

The player agreed.

Say GOODBYE to Stiches!

Hey! Just thought this would be of interest to the some of us who suffer from that irritating pain at the side of our diaphragm when we run - aka STICHES!

Location

Pain in the side of the diaphragm.

How it affects your running

Running downhill increases the forces exerted on the entire body with each foot strike and may induce side stitches, especially if you are nervous (for whatever reason) about running downhill to begin with! Try walking or slowly jogging down any steep hills until you have mastered deep breathing techniques.

If you tend to suffer from side stitches, try to avoid eating within 1 hour of running. Water or gatorade is fine within an hour -- liquid empties from the stomach faster than solids and shouldn't cause any problems.

Causes of Side Stitches

A "side stitch" is a sharp, intense pain under the lower edge of the ribcage caused by a muscle spasm of the diaphragm. Such pain can occur during vigorous exercise, such as running, and seems to occur more commonly in novice exercisers who have not yet established proper pacing and who tend to breathe more quickly and shallow. However, about 30% of all runners will experience stitches at some point. What exactly causes them? On inhalation, we take air into the lungs, pressing the diaphragm downward. When we exhale, the diaphragm moves up. If the body has some trapped air/gas below the diaphragm, if we've eaten too close to exercise, or if we start exercising too vigorously, the diaphragm may cramp, causing pain under the rib cage on the right side.

Treatment of Side Stitches

As with any muscle cramp, the best immediate treatment is to try to stretch the cramping muscle as much as possible. How do you get to the diaphragm on the inside of your body?, Try altering your breathing pattern. Take a deep breath in as quickly as you can, to force the diaphragm down. Hold the breath for a couple of seconds and then forcibly exhale through pursed lips to restrict the outward air flow. You may also find that bending forward can help you expel as much air as possible. I have actually found that stretching up as tall as I could, even to the point of extending arms up over head, then alternating crouch-tall and tightening/flexing the abs, helped as well.

You may even have to stop and walk briskly for a few seconds while concentrating on deep breathing. Continue running after the stitch goes away. If you get a cramp in the middle of a race, you might want to try mixing up your rhythmic breathing/ striding pattern. If you always exhale when your right foot strikes the ground, try exhaling with the left foot strike. The organs attached to the diaphragm on the left side of the body aren't quite as big as those on the right side, hence there is less strain on the diaphragm. Another technique that may work for some is peaceful visualization--if you are feeling stressed from the day or race, try imagining you are elsewhere, and take deep calming breaths as you run.

Hi girls!

I must say it's really nice to be back training once again with all of you (although not everyone was down technically). After being on course for 2 weeks and coming into the training sessions at odd hours, it's just nice to start afresh with you again this morning. Thanks for your patience with me for the many times I came down late and thanks to your captain for 'standing in' as and when needed. Let's appreciate Capt. WaHa-Raar more yea? :)

I know many of us will be going on various trips/holidays/camps/internships/etc at different periods during the holidays. However, unless numbers are really low (that's why its important, to fill Reb/Claud in about your availability. Rebs & Claud, pls let me know the expected numbers and various reasons for absence the night before. Thx!), training will continue as normal. I really hope that when we come down, we come with the mindset to give nothing less than our 100% at every training session however mundane or physically demanding it may seem.
Also, as mentioned this morning, it is our PERSONAL responsibility to look after our own health and well-being. Let's make it a common practice to stay hydrated and get enough rest, especially days before our training alright?
Hate to sound like a nag or a nanny, but just think it's necessary for me to voice out my concerns. :)

Having said that, I would like to commend those who were at training this morning. Thanks for being on time. Some were very ON TIME, literally ON THE DOT. I'm certain you girls were putting in the effort. There's definitely more room for improvement. Don't you give up, only with hard work and a combined team effort will we reap the rewards in time to come!

I also wish and pray for speedy recover for those who weren't feeling well (Rabecca, Huixian, Shihui) and for those who injured themselves (Amanda & Jocelyn) during training. Try to make it for tomorrow's session nevertheless if you can! =)

so promos are a coming and everyone's busy studying or trying to at least, as for me, im trying to stuff some knowledge into my puny brain. haha.

even though u won't admit it, i know everybody LOVES me and so totallie misses me man... wahaha. right... okay the reason for my absence at fitness (do u call it that?) ermm the wednesday PT thing, is cos greg's still alive and kicking! haha. okay so good luck for promos everyone! whee

and i jus wanted to add, the reds vs toon game was great, cos Liverpool got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 home victory!!! yeah!Dirk Kuyt got off the mark in a red shirt, woohoo!!!! like finally. he's absolutely brilliant and alonso's goal was absolutely, friggin SPECTACULAR. beauty man.

i love watching live matches early in the morn. don cha? its damn fun.

1st impression:
i got tis thinking dat girls will jus scream~ when a ball, esp. a soccer ball come near dem.. cos tis type of things happened ard me so often dat i'm used to it.. haha.. i was tinkin will tjc soccer gals be like dat too? but.. OF COURSE NOT!!! if e girls in e team scream~ like some other pdp gals.. not sayin which.. i'll be out of e team e next minute.. haha..
guess wat? i realli like e team.. it is like so difficult to find gals to play soccer wif in my secondary sch daes n i am so glad dat i found u ppl.. REALLI!!! =)

getting to noe u ppl:
it is realli rare to find gals who realli love soccer n i can feel that e whole team love e game a lot..
i was realli impressed wif e soccer skills of you ppl like rebekah, claudia, shiyi (e midfields), shi hui n justine (e defenders), etc..
den i heard dat you ppl din hav a coach when u all played e competitions n e team got 2nd in nationals.. i find dat e team will have a veri high chance of winning again next year, now wif a coach =).. i realli hope that we can get 1st next year..

when we played e testimontial match, i feel dat e team lacks practise in playin as a team, as a whole 11-women team.. it was a realli good chance for us to use e skills dat we hav learned.. for e 1st half of e game.. we were still adjusting to e conditions n i felt dat our coordination as a team improved when we move on to e 2nd half.. but i was realli quite puzzled by some stuffs.. erm.. i felt dat the coach noes the team better n noes which player plays best at which position.. but.. u noe.. .. .. n i realli feel dat e coach shld hav been given e chance to coach us at half time.. like give instructions n all.. (jus a comment =P)

So all those in our team with rather high-pitch voices (you know who you are), better let me hear you shout more on the pitch! :)

okay, i am here to blog! not only because people keep threatening me with the 50c ice-cream penalty and not because i don't want to pay but because i need to point out that NO the phrase "no training.. no entries" DOES NOT RHYME PLEASE. dog and cog is a full rhyme. sing and thin is a half rhyme. poor and door is an eye rhyme. blogging, training and entries are no rhymes. haha.

yeah, but the China vs. Singapore match was really an eye-opener. we saw England jerseys, Man Utd. jerseys, Chelsea jerseys, Rooney jerseys, Arsenal jerseys, Figo jersey (!) and hmmm, anything and everything but the national jersey. so after this must go support the Lions and buy the replica of the national jersey. but can feel the patriotism in the air even though i think more people were interested in booing No.13. there were 3 attempts at the Kallang Wave somemore, very commendable. and Lionel Lewis the-one-man-golden-wall-of-singapore is a show-stopper, literally. he nearly single-handedly stopped China to get a draw.

lastly, hols are ending soon and must go back to school so mug hard. and mugging does not include the 90% of time used to walk around/eat/get a drink/read a mag/check friendster/watch tv under the pretence of mugging or the 9% of time reading while wondering when the mugging can end or the 1% of time flipping through notes knowing its time for bed soon. haha. and rmb to run to keep up stamina so we can play properly when its time for training again.

anyway..hahaha..to those who nv went to watch e match..too bad for u..u really miss out GREAT STUFF =) hahaha..like we hafta walked more than 2.4km to reach the stadium..and being trapped in e crowd and squeezing thru all of them to get into the empty stadium..all of us r really bonded tgt at that time la..hahaha..i think the organiser really screwed up la..mayb they nv expect such great response for a singapore match..hahahah..rightt??hahah..dunno la..

but i think the match was quite gd n the atmosphere also quite gd..at least we are cheering and clapping..feeling really patriotic la..hahah..the match was quite exciting la..my heart skipped a beat whenever china nearly scored a goal..hahaha..but we have a pro goalkeeper..hahha..so tall and fast...his goal kicks are so far and high...hahha..i think the china players really got more advantage can..they are like half a head taller than singapore players..hahha..but in the end..we still tied the score..hohohohoho..i think catching LIVE soccer matches are cool..hhahah..let's go watch n learn more..ahahaha..

hahaha. anyway,really glad that the break is finally here, because my body is kinda worn out these days..and when im worn out, my face doesnt look gd on the pitch too.
haha.anyway, our training ended with a rainy note. i love rainy days actually, as in,besides being a gd weather to snuggle on ur bed, its makes field very muddy which is dam fun to play on!
hahahah, okay, in my opinion...
played with young lions, roaar. if u ask me if i had fun, i think i have fun in ALL the games tt i play. but of course, from the match, i see many areas for improvements. hahah.. i guess all of u girls would have witnessed some points too.
to me, i think the KILLER is goalkicks. and acty, there's several things worrying my mind about our team too. but i guess its just very longwinded if i just blabber here..soo...for what we can work now, its only stamina and some kickings tt we can possibily do alone at home. hahaha.

and definitely looking forward to what melvin can teach us after our promos!
oh people, not to 4get we have tjc open hse a few days right after our promos(i think its 13th oct)..so..make sure ur there to service! hahaa. and to mr au, i hope u like the stuff we bought you yea? its all red and pink! hahaha.cept the cookies..we baked from scratch! *grins*

NOW i know the reason why nobody blogs..not because they are busy.and not because they have nothing to blog about. it's because most people do not know wad's the password.LOL.for your information, there are already three noobs who asked me.to protect their privacy, i shall not reveal them.AND it's only after giving them so many many obvious clues thennnn they got it right.haiii..i think we still do not know each other well enough.we have yet to develop the strong telepathy.we are still unable to know wad's on each other mind. haii.so to understand each other better and to improve our communication on e field, i suggest we should talk on the phone every night. just like what me n claud do most of the time. MUAHAHAHA.

and to think that training has stopped. our pentium 1 telepathy network may fade away. arghhh.and i noe in this 4wks. you all will definitely miss me...hahaha..all of you will miss my wonderful commentation. hahaha..
and mr au ahh..always pretend pretend..but he's actually eavesdropping our conversations. especially our gossips. at the same time..loading all the gossips into his motherboard. n occasionally, chuckling at our comments. RIGHT MR AU????

hmm..anyway..yesterday training ended off quite well. I HATE RAINY DAYS. spoil our wonderful day. yea..playing with the young lions is a very great experience. it's such a rare chance to play with such pro-players. AND although i only touched the ball ONCE..it's so fun..running around the not-at-all-botak field under the floodlights in the slight drizzle. i feel as if i m playing in world cup. LOL.. ok. over-exaggerating. hope we can get more chances to play friendlies with other pro players or whoever. u really learn alot. it's like yesterday..the lions were so fast, never stop communicating (in malay, so we cant intercept their plans.haha) and i like their passes, crosses and their shots are so strong and beautiful..hmmmm..when can we ever play like them..it's so wonderful la..OK. we shall work harder after promos :))

So, it's the time of the year when CCA and training stops, and the mugging begins, although I know most of you would probably only want to start after next week's hols. Whatever it is, study your hardest, get together to form STUDY groups (not gossip groups about OGL/Gordan/etcetc, mind you!) if you need to and REMEMBER to KEEP FIT. It's your personal responsibility to look after your own health and fitness alright. And if ever you girls wanna like 'kick balls' in the midst of the mugging or hols to just take a 'break', I'm up for it!

I hope you had fun at yday's evening game. The objective of the game was to have fun, gain experience and know where we stand. I believe we met all 3 objectives and I'm glad we walked onto the pitch with guts and off it with pride knowing we did our best and had great fun playing together as TEAM TJC! =)
The good news is, if you haven't already suspected, I'm probably here to stay with you girls for another term, at least!

OK seriously i have no idea what to blog about. because mr au wants the entry to do with soccer. something to do with team tjc. hahah..so it's quite difficult to find something to talk about. especially because i m not good at words. hahaha..so probably this is the reason why nobody has blogged yet except for bekah, mr au, mr au and MR AU. LOL.

hmmmm..just wanna thank mr au for puttin in so much effort to organise every training. every training is just so fun n so useful..after every training, i feel so tired but it feels great..it's the only time where i need not bother about studies and anything else..i enjoy goin for trainings. i look forward to every training so much.
i hate skipping trainings. i felt like i miss out something this week. n having training with you people is such a great experience. a bunch of crazy funny people.
arghh..i dont want any study break!!!

so..we left TWO more trainings before promos come. i hope we could have FULL attendance for both trainings cos it has never happened. we only have 16 ppl..it's not a big number so ya...hope all of u can come for training on monday n on wednesday..

Thanks Rebsie for that opening speech. Was nice to have the team captain step up to say a few words aye? But hey, this space aint just for the captain, vice-capt (not that she has said anything so far tho') or me. It's for anyone of you in team tjc to say anything with regards to the team or football. Let your voice be heard!

And so since training was cancelled on Friday, I decided to satisfy my hunger for football and thus drop by East Coast Park this evening on my own to like kick around. Not by myself of course! I put on my ultra-thick skinned suit aside from the usual soccer gear and stepped up to ask one guy amongst the other five kicking around...
Soccer-hungry Melvin: "Hey...you think I could just kick around with you guys?"
Football Man (in his 40's): "Ya..ya...can...!"

The rest was history. Match was rather slow paced and of low quality aside from the occasional through passes I threaded. =) But you know, I realised football fans/players alike are all UNITED by a single ball. Yea, we indeed are. to the point of putting our differences aside just to chase a single ball on the field and try, at all cost to pass it into a space marked out by two metal bars.
Looking forward to my amateur league game tomorrow afternoon. Guess where it's at? Turf City. Yeap. It's been slightly more than a month now since I had my first glimpse of you girls in action there! Time flies by. . .

But more than that and for the purpose of this post, let me share with you an encounter I had whilst browsing for a new pair of boots at Queensway Shopping Centre on friday.
There I was in this particular store browsing the Adidas boots section when I heard voices of a couple of boys (I figured from the way they spoke they were Upper Sec, or at most year 1 JC BOYS) behind me. As far as I can remember, the conversation went a little like this. . .
(For the sake of relevance, especially since some of us here experienced the un-gentlemanly side of them, I shall refer to them as JC Boys. )

JC Boy 1: Eh..please leh..next time don't bring that ball to play leh...damn hard leh...kick already damn pain can? and some more cannot kick far wan!
JC Boys: haha...hehe...
JC Boy 1: Ya lah..bring the Adidas ball can...or even the World Cup one also better..can kick further..easier to kick and CAN curl some more!!??

(they carried on with their lovely chat. I was simply enjoying eaves-dropping btw. ;) )

JC Boy 1/2: (looking at pair of diadora boots. apparently very nice designed pair of boots) WAH! Damn nice lah this boots!
JC Boy 3: Yah man! damn nice!
JC Boy 4: ehh....the price also very nice lor!
JC Boy 1: wah! Like that...I must as well buy Adidas lor....predator still can CURL the ball very well lor...
Mr Au: (under my breath) yah..and Nike Air can run faster and jump higher.....

So, what can we conclude from this girls? If you haven't already realised, it's not in the pair of boots we put on or in the ball(s) that we kick! Yea, momentarily and initially, it would make a slight difference in how we feel on the pitch (IMAGERY of us playing like our favourite football stars or looking like them, at least?), But honestly speaking, football is definitely more than that. Aside from getting our basics right, Football is about passion. It's about the team. It's about my friend on my left, on my right supporting me when I'm in possession of the ball or when I'm trying to BUY TIME (with the money justinE so claims we don't have). Football is about the love and time we share with each other. Football is about mugging together when training stops (and I'm glad you girls are doing so!).
Football at TEAM TJC is about giving our very best, staying Committed, Disciplined and Dedicated to the team and ourselves in spite of how we feel.

alrighty. first, gotta thank MR MELVIN AU for creating this blog!=)
the blog template is fine, seriously! dont think we should make it too fanciful either. this is neat and easy to navigate. haha,yep. but of cos, you girls who can find even better templates, feel free to edit it. (i think every1 will be too lazy to do so anyway).

haha, yep, so you must be wondering HOW to blog.
the user is obviously "teamtjc". password..pls read the 1st entry and guess the password. haha,. if you're still so dumb, just ask me personally.

hmm, actually, was wondering how successful this blog will be. well, cos since most of us have our own individual blogs, guess its hard to spend more time blogging in this. BUT, people like shiyi, who is so talkative and doesnt have her own blog, may be flooding this. but yes, pls do post entries to spice it up yea? and of cos, pictures and GOOD videos pls. hahah.

now about our team.
again, i'm not saying this for the sake of saying. BUT, i really see a GREAT great potential in the team and of course, in each and every girl. Now girls, all you need to do is attend trainings and master as much as you can. i'm not "selling" the point that you SHOULD go training..but i'm emphasising this point because in my opinion, i think its very impt tt the whole team improve as a whole unit! and, since we've mr au around, i think its a GREAT and super lucky opportunity for us to brush,polish whatever crap skills we have. dont u think so?

alright. and i shall be straight here. to those, who feel that no matter how much they attend trainings and train, you'll never be chosen to play, DO NOT. i repeat, DO NOT think that way.
remember, nothing's impossible.
every1s fresh, and every1s given equal chances to improve, but that includes your own personal goal to what you wanna achieve. hmm, understand? and for goodness sake, ME,mr au aint BLIND and definitely not biased. if u show the skills, you'll definitely play alright. even if you cant play, you're still in the team! cos,look, we're TEAMTJC. ;)

alright, shall stop nagging. but anyway,last point.
PROMOS coming up. pls be disciplined and mug. and of cos, dont 4get training yourself at home. that includes running and kicking balls with yourself and the wall. yep.

and. most importantly, pay SOCCER FUNDS to huimin. we're gg broke.

It takes two people to make a pass. One has to give the ball, the other has to get it.

So girls, in a nutshell, to play the 'give-and-take' game, one has to give and one has to take.

Meanwhile, enjoy the two videos. We talked about stringing 7 passes together and even tried our hand at it. Look what we can do if we can string 24 passes together. Argentina DID IT at WC06! So can we! Come to think of it. I think we had at least 4 passes leading up to WaHaRa's goal against NUS? Reb-Shiyi-Claud-Reb? Well done! We are almost there! so.......
IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING!

Kick-Off!

So I just thought it would be nice to have something like that for our team, since we all love each other so much (and I'm referring to wholesome, healthy love here) and enjoy talking our ourselves and everything else all the time. This blog certainly does not exist that we may say bad things about others (as some are in the practise of doing so), but that we may encourage and spur each other on another step closer to satisfying our hunger!
Also, feel free to post whatever pics you think may be of interest to the rest of us (e.g.our dear Claud falling asleep in lectures, Gelin with another 3-step stride, Huimin with one of her ballet moves. I'm sure you get the drift.) Unless it's totally necessary or simply too long an entry to 'tag', please insert all comments or random thoughts as 'comments' or on the 'tag board'

Then again, if you girls think this is too much of a hassle and don't think this is worth the effort, no problems at all. I'm just exploring the options we have towards working our common goal! =) Feel free to contribute whatever thoughts or suggestions you have with regards to this.
